Interesting to think about being a miracle.
I know my very existence is the result of a miracle, multiple miracles really. With each breath I take, I am a miracle. How can we explain the intricacies of our bodies simply knowing what to do and how to operate? We can understand how it all works together, but as for making our bodies work, we don’t have that kind of power. It is simply beyond us and, therefore, a miracle.
This line of thinking is a great way to gain perspective in life, especially if you’re having one of “those” days. With each breath you take, you truly are living a miracle. The way in which your body was formed, and then grew, in the womb is astounding.
Every single day, we are witnessing and living a miracle.
I would define “miracle” as something beyond our ability and comprehension. Simply amazing we have a God who provides this for us each and every day.
But there is another type of miracle I have witnessed, both by receiving and being it. And it is the miracle of generosity.
If you have been a Christian for longer than a few weeks, you have probably heard a teaching about giving, generosity, tithing, first fruits, all of that good stuff regarding your money. But one of the more powerful things of generosity is understanding a simple truth: our obedience and faithfulness is another person’s miracle.
Continuing It
I have heard numerous testimonies of God’s financial provision is someone’s life. In desperation, money just showed up. A bill was taken care of, a debt was wiped clean or something was magically fixed. To the individual, this was a miracle of God. But to the giver, this was obedience.
Giving is a joyful experience when we realize our obedience is another person’s miracle. My consistent faithfulness is the provision someone else desperately needs. When I give, I get to be a part of the miracle because “I get to continue the miracle!”
The miracle always traces back to God and His loving, generous character. As faithful givers, we are the conduit for furthering the reach of the miracle.
Scripture shares how we are stewards of the things in our lives (Matthew 25:23, 1 Corinthians 4:2, 1 Peter 4:10) and the source is God and God alone. What we have is not really what we have. It belongs to the King (Psalms 24:1), and we are commissioned to use the resources He has bountifully blessed us with for His glory and to further His Kingdom here on earth. Some are blessed with lots, some with less. But regardless of what you are entrusted with, you are called to steward it with a higher purpose (Proverbs 3:9-10).
We all know, and have experienced at holidays and birthdays, it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). It is more blessed to be a giver because joy flows through a generous heart.
I’m not sure if this thought is resonating with you as you read this, but for me lately, realizing I can “be a miracle” to someone else by simply being generous, a good steward and obedient, gives me hope and purpose to whatever I put my hand to. When we give, we join in on the miracle God is working.
To think, the money I worked for, earned, saved and took care of has reach beyond what I can do encourages me to see the money as God’s tool and not just my provision. A simple act of physical discipline creates a ripple of spiritual impact beyond what we know and understand.
Obedience in Action
Maybe you’ve practiced the discipline of managing your money wisely through the battle of your fleshly desires, having them bow down to the desires of the Spirit (Romans 7), and now, your obedience and generosity can be the miraculous provision of God in someone’s life.
Your generosity is a miracle to someone else.
Your willing obedience can alter a family’s life.
Your faithfulness has the power to draw people to Jesus.
And isn’t that the miracle? What we have in our power to do reveals a way for God to show just how much He loves and cares for us?
When we give, we witness the unlimited power our giving has through God. The reach it can go to showcase the Gospel of Jesus.
Try it out. Give generously and see how God works through it. How He works it in the recipient’s heart, but also in your heart.
Find someone in need, and bless them. It could be random, it could be through relationship. Ask God to show you who is in need and then give. Watch the miracle unfold and see how God works in the moment.
A Defining Moment
There was an instance early in our marriage where we received an incredibly generous gift.
My wife and I were full time college students, working part time jobs and freshly married. We did not have much debt, but we also did not have much in the way of income.
We started working the Dave Ramsey Baby Steps, applying those teachings and principles to our lives. We worked, we sacrificed and we kept our eyes on the future of what this could create for us.
While doing the disciplines, we were given a blessing of money, catapulting us through some of the baby steps! What an incredible blessing it was to be on the receiving end of generosity!
But when we received the money, it did something in our hearts we did not expect.
Yes, being able to pay down debt, have an emergency fund was great and freeing, but it showed the type of people we want to be. And it gave us purpose and a direction to pursue with our lives and our marriage.
We want to be givers, people who are generous and obedient. We want to be able to do for others what was done for us. We experienced and received a miracle through another person’s willingness to give. Their generosity was miraculous provision for us.
Your generosity is another person’s miracle! When you give freely, you are extending the reach of God’s miraculous provision in someone’s life. When we give, we are allowing God to be the miracle. And the beauty of it all is, He invites us along for the journey.
How can you further God’s miracle in and through your life?
