Why Wholeness

I’ve recently realized the immense value of wholeness in my life. For too long I mixed it up with maturity, but living a life of wholeness takes on an entirely different meaning once you realize what it looks like in your life and why it’s so important.

I’m willing to bet most people want to do “something” with their life. Make their mark, impact people, be memorable. At the very least, they want to be loved, and have people to love.

Oftentimes, we fail to acknowledge the level of impact we truly can have.

Very few of us even scratch the surface of the impact we can have in this world, and I believe it’s mostly because we aren’t operating at our best.

It is my conviction that we are at our best when we are whole. And wholeness encompasses many areas, such as:

  • Physical health
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Mental fortitude
  • Spiritual depth
  • Financial margin

This very concept of wholeness is a topic to pursue with our entire lives. How we attain it, why it matters, how it affects us, what it truly is, etc.

One main thing to realize about wholeness is that it’s not a list of tasks to complete and then, viola, you’re whole. Unfortunately not that easy (like anything worth having in life really).

Stepping into wholeness is more preparation and strengthening than it is task completion. Tasks don’t guarantee wholeness, just like completing an assignment in school doesn’t guarantee a passing grade.

Simply put, wholeness is daily steps taken in the proper direction, enabling us to achieve the desired results we seek with, and for, our lives. To be whole, we have to work, strive, sacrifice and suffer to get to a point. And then to remain at that point, we have to work, strive, sacrifice and suffer!

Nothing worth having or doing in this life will come easily. And in my time on earth, I’ve learned a key truth about life: it’s rarely easy!

“Life” will always happen to us, but living in wholeness allows us the opportunity to happen to life. To create something wonderful. To overcome obstacles and difficulties. To make our life, experiences and pain meaningful. To be an inspiration!

I’ve come to the conclusion that, if I want to have a meaningful, impactful and inspiring life, I must live in wholeness. Physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and financially.

I want my life to matter, and I know it won’t matter unless I live it in a way that matters!

So, what is wholeness? My definition is the state of being complete, lacking nothing, undivided and not broken. Not in just one, or a few of the areas mentioned above, but in all the areas.

So, why wholeness? It allows me to be the absolute best version of myself, which in turn makes me the best husband, father, friend, boss, brother, etc I can be.

The question you have to then ask yourself, is “why wholeness for you?

Maybe not everyone will understand the drive of being whole, but personally, I can’t imagine a life where I leave little impact. I want my life to matter and to mean something. I want to leave a legacy for my family, friends and generation. I want to inspire those I have influence over. I don’t want to simply exist, I want to do something memorable.

I know this won’t happen, unless I’m at my best, doing my best. And I know I can’t be at my best, unless I am practicing and walking in wholeness.
