“Follow me.” (Matthew 4:19, Mark 1:17, Luke 5:11, John 1:43)
Two simple words Jesus spoke to twelve men that forever changed their life.
“Follow me.”
He called them out of the ordinary and into His higher purpose.
“Follow me.”
Sometimes we seek God’s will for our lives and forget to seek God’s will. Period. He wants you and He wants you to follow Him.
“Seek Me first and then all these things will be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)
Jesus is calling you by name. He wants your gifts, He wants your talents and He wants everything you can offer. Most importantly, He wants you!
We search for God’s will for our lives and fail to realize, there is no such thing. There is only God’s will and we can choose to be in His will or operating on our own.
The God of the universe is calling to you and saying “Follow me”. We can learn a great deal of how to obey when called by looking at the response of the disciples when Jesus called them:
“Immediately they left and followed Him.” (Mark 1:20)
The disciples didn’t wait, they understood Who was speaking to them and understood the depth of what He was asking of them.
“Follow me.”
Right at this moment, no matter where you are at it in life, He is calling for you to “follow Him”.
This may be a scary step because it might cost you everything. It may cost you the contents of your bank account. It may cost you your career choice. It may cost you your comfort and safety with friends and family. It may cost you everything you know. The disciples may not have known everything it was going to cost them, but they knew in that moment they needed to follow Him!
“Follow me.”
Jesus is calling His sheep and Scripture says “the sheep know the Shepherds voice.” (John 10:27) Where is He calling you? What is He calling you to? He is calling you to follow Him!
Right now you have two options: to follow Him, or not. “Please let us go bury our dead. Let the dead bury the dead.” (Matthew 8:22)
What do you need to leave behind in order to follow Him? Doesn’t matter if it is sin, a ministry or something noble. If it gets in the way of following Him, it is secondary!
Is Jesus most important in your life? Is Jesus worth the most important things in your life?
“Follow me.”
The beautiful thing is this: it’s worth it. Twelve said yes to following Jesus and then launched the New Testament church. What can Jesus do with your yes? What can Jesus do in you with your yes?
It will require everything from you. But once we are willing to give up what we hold on to, then we will be able to have all we need in Him! We are only able to receive everything He has for us once we empty ourselves of ourself. Are you willing?
“Follow Me!”
